MPCC V: Submissions Ending Soon & No French Translation

I've received a record LOW in terms of submissions for MPCC V. As a result, I've decided to extend the submission by one more week. All coins must be submitted by January 15th, 2016.

In addition, there will be no French translation, due to the fact that everyone who would have helped me translate disappeared (apuking informed me that he can't translate this time, Ducatx vanished, and SRoweCollection was banned and went on to leave Numista).
It's probably because you advertised it so soon after the other one closed and people have forgotten about it. I know I did.

I would recommend:
  1. having a big push for registrations, put some threads up in the Numista questions, free discussion, Numista website, etc rather than just in this section which not everyone looks at.
  2. Start the competition in February or March when everyone is well back from Christmas and New Years holidays and back into the swing of things.
  3. Close off registration when you feel you have enough entries rather than setting a time limit.
  4. When you have enough entries, put out more threads giving people a few days to get late entries in

I'll try to rustle up some coins this week to get the entries in.
Look, I'm not going to push people to register. BUT I'll take some of your suggestions.

#1: I'll advertise in the Free Discussion forum, ask Xavier for a Numista blog post, and I'll post in the Facebook group.

#2: The contest will now begin on February 1st.
Which is better? Sticking to your timeframe for coins and getting a low amount of entries, or actually having a decent amount of coins in the competition for us to vote on?

I would prefer that you keep advertising and push out the time limit for registration.
There are plenty of coins that have been entered already, and I could run a decent contest with them alone. I'm not going to give an unlimited time for entries. BUT, I'll give in a little more.
Sounds fair
Sounds good to have additional time as still waiting for Asia, Africa and Northern America rewards. And as now part of the MPCC staff, going to ad this in French side.

Thanks.
Ad already done. Furthermore, I've launched in the same way a debate to confirm the French translation you asked me in PM or suggest another one.

I was about to post that on the admin group, but I guess it works best in the French forum. Let the will of the people decide!
Listen, I appreciate all the donated prizes, but a potential reason for a low turn out is that compared to previous years, these prizes are rather slim. Especially in comparison to last year. People won't enter a contest if they don't feel the prizes are worth the effort. I'll see if I can whip something up when I get home.
To majority of us who were here before the MPCC it was never about the prize more just the pride of having a coin a lot of people appreciated.
Mark, and I entirely agree with you. But to many people, it is about the prizes. Maybe not myself, but to many others it is.
Just notice prizes are mainly from donations. You can also see the list is still not full.

Chomp, please refer to my first comment in which I thanked all those that donated.
Before this contest started, I contemplated having no prizes. But I realized that for most people its already not about the prizes, but they are a nice bonus.

If its about the prizes for you, please feel free not to enter. ;)
Dan, while contemplating organising a "best collection" event Xavier agreed to create a nice profile badge for the winners. Perhaps you might approach him for something similar for the MPCC. Free coins are very nice an' all but the winners tend to be people who already have very good collections. Personally, while being very impressed by the generosity of the donors, I would put more value on a permanent tribute to the respect of my peers, than another coin.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

YES! That's a great idea. I'll ask him.
We used to have these on car forums years ago a small medal under the DP in gold, silver & bronze and it would have "best in show 2013 etc. Then over the years you could end up with loads of medals it was quite fun. For this you could have
MPC 2016 and do a 3rd place playoff :)

Fortunately we had a preceeding event of 3rd place round, as the organizer apuking won both "gold and silver medals", to give the final prize.

I know we have very few prizes this year, but if a nice donator would have been able to give more prizes, it would have been nice to give "gold, silver and bronze" prizes.

PS: I know this coin would be a quite low value award, but to fill the North America and Atlantic Islands category, I remember I have a 1970 centavo from Cuba I wanted to add in my swap list. As one of my nicest doubles maybe this small one would fill the gap if no better prize to give. In the same way I found some 5 cents 1942 from British East Africa.

There are quite a few low value but high scarcity coins, I remember it taking me forever to find a Nigeria 2 shillings. If memory serves right they're like £15 max around a VF grade but it took me over a year to find one. There's got to be other items similar. I'm sure I saw a Panama prize last year equally as good low Mintage coins not so specially collected but collectors are starting to take notice now :)
Coud you give us an idea of how many members have participated yet  ?

And will it begin as planned in January ?

Reporté à mi-février, vu que les inscriptions ont été prolongées, laissons-lui un mois pour tout préparer comme prévu ;)

I would have participated, but I don't have 30 posts and I don't feel like posting junk just so I can participate... I'm in for the next edition, though!
