I was just putting a few Botswana coins in my doubles and I came upon this one

That's something that happens with every type of coin, it's not any kind of variant, just a die error resulting from over-use.
I don't see why this should be shown in the coin sheet.
I agree with androl, it is just caused by the mint trying to produce as manner strikes as possible before changing dies, it's not a variant as such

I don't want to go into the discussion about what a variant is.

What I've shown is a NOT normal coin, which might very well have been produced in thousands of units!

That's all.

Now if a repeated defective coin is defined as a variant or not, is another thing completely. It's for sure a die error.....
