Mint marks & edge types for Republic India

Hi,

I just had a look at the documentation of India, which is nice and correct, BUT it misses everything about the mint marks and the edge varieties, like for exampel the security edges!

Who can incorporate these two images to that?



How can we expect people to know things, they have NEVER been told? We have to educate our fellow collectors as well as possible, don't we now?

That's the reason, why I document nearly everything I find in my coins, also if it's only some pieces of extra alloy somewhere on a coin.....

The Royal Canadian Mint at Winnipeg was opened in the mid-1970's, as the Royal Canadian Mint at Ottawa was no longer able to keep up with the demand for coins both in Canada & outside Canada.

The Royal Canadian Mint at Ottawa now strikes only bullion medal-coins.

I would say this prooves Aidan's point.

What some coins Indians claim to be struck at the Tower Mint is actually incorrect.

The Tower of London logo is actually that of the Royal Mint at Llantrisant - not the Tower Mint,which is the name of a private mint run by Raphael Maklouf the coin designer,who was once employed by the Royal Mint.

Check out the Royal Mint's website,then you can see the Royal Mint's logo for yourself.

This is a great thread – and I do not collect these coins – but is amazed by the knowledge and cooperation of the members who is doing this thread.

Ole,
The Royal Mint in London closed in 1975,so any coins dated after that were struck at the Royal Mint in Llantrisant (which opened in 1968).

Heaton's Mint used an 'H' mintmark on the 1985 1 Rupee.

Heaton's Mint was totally independent of the Royal Mint.

The Royal Mint reference was regarding London & Llantrisant,nowhere else.

you start to be a bit complicated, my dear Sir Aidan. Birmingham IS where the Heaton mint is/was placed? Would YOU prefer Heaton or Birmingham?
Anyway I'll NOT change it, you please make your own documentations in the future.
