Hi Guys,

Wanted to get some help on these 3 coins,

Coin - 1: 0.7 grams, 18 mm (Billon?)

Obverse: Coat of arms with 3 Lions (Similar to UK)
Reverse: I can just read "I R" in the center

Coin - 2: 0.6 grams, 16 mm (Billon)

This one is sort of similar to Livonia, KM# 5 (Schilling - Sigismund III Vasa) But the reverse seems little different than KM#5.

Coin - 3: 1.13 grams, 16 mm (Bronze)

Obverse: King's Bust to right
Reverse: Coat of arms?

Thanks!

Regards...
Sujit

I'm not an expert in any kind of coins, but I reckon I'm good at research and will do my best to help. Feel free to tell me my identifications/valuations/gradings are wrong. It's the only way I'll learn.
Thanks Damian and BizzoDoes,

Yes it's pretty worn, but will keep it i guess 0:)

Thanks again to all for your help!

Nope, there are no place for this coins :( I have some request about other Courland coins. They are not belong to Poland and I doubt (maybe I'm wrong) that should belong to Polish - Lithuanian Commonwealth
https://en.numista.com/forum/topic48145.html - why is solved ? Don't know. I remember there once was country as Courland, but right now we don't have. I don't want to create a new country because want to have one more country at my list. But I think Courland should be as country like others similar countries at Numista.

So for now it is "Polish - Lithuanian Commonwealth" where this coin should be put?

You should ask referee for Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth - Lavrenty
In my opinion you should put in Courland country or there is a need to create in Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth category  : Fiefs of the Polish Kingdom with subdivision Duchy_of_Courland_and_Semigallia

Oh, how dare you to solve this without me :D just kidding. Oh, how I am glad. I have finally place where I can upload duchy of Courland coins (including one I own). Still believe it should have been new country listing, but whatever, I will place them all there. B)

BTW: Nice coins Sujit!

PS: Coins of Livonia will be up once Sneyoz shows up. He has small christmass presents in form of almost hundred requests from me. :D

Good to see that topic with Courland coins is solved :) I'm not sure if this coins should be there, by creating this subdivision we need to be aware that coins from other fiefs should also belong there ( for example Duchy of Prussia, Polish Livonia,Principality of Wallachia, Principality of Moldovia, Teutonic Order Prussia etc.) , but at least we have place to put them :)

Sujit, now u must wait until Lavrentu will confirm the coin.

Jarcek, i know your presents very well ;p;p

Returning to the topic :
Did you know that Duchy of Courland has their own colony in Gambia and Tobago ? I wonder if they issue coins there ...

Hell no, I did not know that B. That would be one of the most amazing colonial issues ever made if there were any coins.

Indeed !
Just read an article about it its wonderful, but in polish only :(
Another one is that Poland could have colony in Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia, Ceylon, Melanesia ( Papua New Guinea) and have it Cameroun 30km square :) try in Angola. In Madagaskar France dont agree :) We have also agremment with Liberia. Polish protectorat in Liberia but USA dont agree :)

Thanks, I have a whole catalog on Courland + a site full of coins. I will start adding them once the section is established.

I think the solution for Courland and in general for all the historical countries is to leave the current old-fashioned country oriented structure of the catalog. The problem will be solved when we have a tagging system. Coins from Courland would have several historical and geographical tags: Courland, Polish-Lithuanian and Latvia.

I know it's a major change in Numista with a lot of development by Xavier, but a definitive solution to one of the two main problems of the catalog from its inception.
