So I work two jobs, second job I unload boxes for UPS. So while unloading an aaIn truck with over 5000+ boxes I had an idea.
sorry only had a 10 minute break at work. My goal would be to complete every countries catalog. To accomplish this we would start with former countries as example "east Africa" pull next to the country my Krause 1900-2000 book and check if any coins are missing in our catalog.
We could either do a CCIP project or have the referees add the missing coins with as much info as possible.. Even if that means no picture in the beginning. We could have a stock picture for coins missing a picture. Also if the referees would add all the missing coins they wouldn't need to spend extra time to verify if a coin is added right . Since they know the coin was missing and should be added. They can do it right the first time.
think it is better to have all the info and no picture then not having a coin in the catalog.
If someone add a coin to there collection. It should automattbaend them an email requesting a picture.
I am running 4 Community projects now and cannot really do much more. I also do not know how the work could be distributed here, maintaining the list of checked countries maybe?
That is right, like I said if we want to be the best online catalog. We start with what Krause has and then add to it if needed. I also think that if the catalog is complete in the "former countries" that country doesn't need a referee anymore and they can focus there time on other countries.
and to Jareck. You don't need to be in charge of that. I could maybe start the project, like I said I have a 1900-2000 Krause catalog I can use as a reference. That can be a good start.
Not it saying it will be fast, but anything to improve will be helpfull.

I already started doing that
I have the Krause from 1600 until 2000 , and even without pictures , I started skimming it , and I started to add some coins that are not yet here
StefanDoby Thanks for adding all these coins but I truly believe that for the Numista website it is better to add Coin files filed out as much as possible.
I am already doing hard for finding pictures for previously added coin files that had no pictures and very limited information, no weight diameter, no text description, no denomination in figure form and no Pictures.
It is nice to fill out the catalogue, but I believe that the files should have some unique content to them, when adding a coin try to look if we can find pictures fro authorized websites or if you can find the weight, diamaeter in a trustfull source and and and....
5000 new coins in the German States is not worth much if there is not much content in the coin sheets.
I don't want to be rude but I already spend many many hours just trying to find information on weight, currency value, Pictures, texts of a coin... If people would add that it would be a lot more helpfull for Numista.

Not everybody is the same but for new coin sheets I often take 20-30 minutes + to verify a single coin sheet and add missing information.

Agreed. We should put more focus on quality over quantity or we risk lowering the credibility of the catalogue
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.
That is why we are here, as referees. We should ensure that quality. I mean members can always add as much coins as they want, but they can also be turned back, if the the quality is missing.
On the other hand, I have some personal example - after I added Czech gold coins, some of them got user pictures pretty soon, creating nice coin sheets we would be missing if I did not added half-blank page.

Agreed with Apuking.
Particularly at those periods, when die variability was high and with Krause providing little information (I mean they give no size, weight, legend etc), the presence of the sheet without info does not help a user when he needs to identify.
There are many authorized websites now and scroll through their archives will already provide many opportunities to add new coins.
I remember a comment by Sjoelund saying Numista was just an online copy of KM. If we want to do better and different, we have to provide more info.
