Hello guys,

I noticed that the Burgundian Netherlands were added to the catalog which is great! But some coins are part of the Habsburg Netherlands who is not in the catalog.

Netherlands/Belgium History
Burgundian Netherlands (1384-1482) - Current Belgium + Netherlands
Habsburg Netherlands (1482-1555) -Current Belgium + Netherlands
Spanish Netherlands (1556-1713) - Current Belgium + Netherlands
Austrian Netherlands (1713-1795) Current Belgium

United Dutch States (Verenigde Nederlandse Staten, États Belgiques Unis) (1790) - Current Belgium

This was a federation of a few rebellion states which existed only in 1790.

These are the coins from Austrian Netherlands - Révolution Brabançonne - Florin and should be added tot the United Dutch States.

Is it possible to look in to this and add the different "Country's" to the catolog? I think the Burgundian and Habsburg Netherlands should be added to the Netherlands section and United Dutch States to the Belgium section.

I like to hear what is possible and how this change works.

Hello,
Habsburg Netherlands? Where there is a catalog that classify these coins?

Burgundian Netherlands (1384-1482) - Current Belgium + Netherlands
Starts with Philippe le Hardi
Burgundian Netherlands (1482-1506) - Current Belgium + Netherlands
Philippe le Bel was titular duke of Borgoña, Brabant, Limburg and Luxembourg, Count of Flanders, Habsburg, Hainaut, Holland and Zeeland, Tirol and Artois, and lord of Antwerp and Mechelen, among other cities, between 1482 and 1506, inheritance from his mother Mary of Burgundy. Maximilian of Habsburg was only regent for his age minority.
Spanish Netherlands (1506 -1713) - Current Belgium + Netherlands
Carlos V inherited the territories, being King of Spain. Philips II was also Habsburg, and Isabella, and Philips IV, and Charles II… but are spanish-austrian house.
Austrian Netherlands (1713-1795) Current Belgium
Correct

That is true. But the name Spanish Netherlands is used from the start of the Fillips II period starting from 1556.

The periode 1482 - 1795 the Netherlands and België (From 1588 only Belgium) are ruled by Habsburg landlords. Burgundian Netherlands ends in 1482. From then the regio is called the Habsburg Netherlands even though Fillips is still a Burgundian duchy.

So from 1482 till 1555 the Netherlands are ruled by Habsburg lords, but the name Spanish Netherlands are not used yet.

Hello,

When we decided to name Austria Habsburg including a dynasty name in a country name, thre was a lot of complaint. Right. It remained for a while and may change with the turmoil of the new structure.

It would not be a good idea to do it for Netherlands, afterall, even after 1556, the rulers were Habsburg, just another branch.

The choice done in the catalogue is a simplification, sticks better to the main catalogues, and avoids a dynasty-country issue.

Indeed, as any choice, it can be discussed but is not fundamentaly wrong.

There is quite a nice graph there https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Netherlands in space and time. I don't know how exact it is but a good illustration of the complexity of the area.

Hello,
With the approach of a dynasty name in a country name, Spain it would be Spain-Habsburg (1506-1700) and Spain-Bourbon (1700-present)

And don't forget the Republic eras and the Franquist regime inside the Bourbon period.

Thank you for the answers! It was pretty complicated in that period.
