Djibouti in the antiquity was part of the Land of Punt. The Djibouti area, along with other localities in the Horn region, was later the seat of the medieval Adal and Ifat Sultanates. In the late 19th century become the french colony called French Somaliland ( It existed between 1883 and 1967) Since 1967 it was overseas territory of France called French Afars & Issas till 1977 when gained indenpedence and was renamed as Djibouti.
Now, let see some facts u can find at Numista:
French Somailland :
Franc (1949-date) - this should be changed. This country does not exsist anymore ( 1883 -1967) Are this currency is still in use ?
Under Djibouti you can find coins - Franc (notgeld, 1914-1931) - while Djibouti gained Indepedence in 1977.
I think we have two solution :
We move them to the French Somalilland or move country French Somaliland and French Afars & Issas under Djibouti.
French Afars & Issas :
The simmilar situation as above with French Somaliland - Franc (1949-date). This country not exist in 1949. As you can check in Wikipedia this country exist since 1967 till 1977. Are this currency is still in use ?
The local Franc on use in Djibouti is still the same currency since 1949 (with trial strikes in 1948), no matter the way the colony changed their name or gained independance. So despite the coinage changed, their currency remained the same.
Concerning the Djibouti notgelds, I would agree a transfer to French Somaliland but keeping the French Notgeld currency as officially using the French national currency.

I also think that notegelds should be moved.
.......
So if i travel to Djibouti i can pay with coins from French Somaliland, Affars and Isas right ?
In Poland since indenpedence in 1918 (more 1923 then 1918) we also still use Złoty even when we changed name to PRL (Polish People's Republic) and again back to the Republic of Poland we use zloty. Now we use 4th zloty ( only 4th legal tender). But this is in Poland not Djibouti.
Im trying to find information if franc from FS and FA&I is demonetized or not. Is is possible to use currency from country that not exist ?
I don't say they're still legal tender in modern Djibouti, but these coins are officially of the same currency.
As you can see, the global characteristics and the reverse side are rather similar.

Yeah, i know what you mean, just tryin to work it out this topic.
Last week i ask Djibouti central bank about theirs currency, but didnt reply to me yet.
French catalogs put French Somaliland and Affars and Issas undet Djibouti, while Krause separate them.
Is it possible that Djibouti use currency from Fr Somaliland and Affars and Isas ( from the countries that not exist)?
If the only name of Djibouti was changed we should move Fr Somali and Affars & Isas to the Djibouti right ?
Well, though the area of the country stayed the same (only the name because the country gained its independence), I would rather keep separate "French Somaliland", "Afar and Isas" and "Djibouti" in the catalogue since it is easier for someone looking at a coin (and reading the name of the country written on the coin) to find it by its country at the time it was issued.
That's right, the new system can technically allow such sublistings for now.
The only thing I wanted to change for sure is concerning the notgeld as, even under the name Djibouti, were made under colonial administration, aka. French Somaliland.
Anyway we are going to implement a new feature soon making listings more precise as we'll implement country listing introductions. As we're already testing this feature, I guess I can already announce it.

Ok, for me is no problem.
About notgeld i will move them to the French Somaliland, Shadoko do you agree ?
One thing that still bothering me. If franc from FS and FA&I is demonetized or not. Is it possible to use currency from country that not exist ? If i travel to Djibouti i can pay with coins from French Somaliland, Affars and Isas?

Damian
Hi all,
get some news, as expected coins from French Somaliland, Affars and Isas are not a legal tender in Djibouti - only coins since indepedence in 1977. We should change this at the country section.
