Number of persons that have a coin

I think instead of the rarity of the coin that we have now, we should use :
Number of persons that have this coin/Total users of Numista= A ratio rating(Rounded with 2 decimals).
What do you think?

So basically you're talking about changing the Numista Rarity to a Numista Percentage? So instead of "Numista Rarity 97" it's "0.0000072%" (or whatever percent 1 member is)?

I propose to ignore users who don't have online collections, i.e. rarity index could be calculated as the ratio of persons that have this coin to users who have entered at least one (?) coin in their online collection.
It is true that not everyone collects the same things, and this makes the collecting more interesting. But it is interesting to know how much people collect the same things as me.

That's a better idea. Maybe we could stop calling it a rarity rating. Calling it a rarity rating is a bit misleading for many reasons, and I've seen people start to quote the numista rarity ratings in online auctions.

I think it's ok to compare it to the total number of members(including those that haven't added any coin in their collection).
The 1 cent usa will still be very common and some rare gold coin will still have a very small owning percentage.

I would rather see number of owners, rather than a percentage. I would rather see "Owners: 1" Than "0.0000135912". The owner number is more informative.

Agree wholeheartedly with Nathan. The number of collectors who have registered a certain coin creates it's own rarity index.

Yeah but if we have 3000, it might sound huge but what if there are 100000 users on numista.

If all 100,000 users have the coin, then it is not rare, and neither is it reasonable rate if 3,000 users have it.
Collectors who are looking for some kind of rarity index, will probably only be looking at coins with, say below 100 collectors or maybe even less.
Those of us who have no real interest in the Numista rarity index, will not worry about this number but have their own method of working out rarity, but none of them are real, as there may be many more coins out there with collectors who are not on Numista, or mintage may say one thing, but you cannot guarantee that is accurate, especially with older coins as some may be lost, thus making a coin rarer, without you realising it.

Or you could just say 1 member out of (auto-updating number) 73583 members own this coin.

Exactly, and a ratio, to be helpful at the end.
