Silver coins were among the first coins ever used, thousands of years ago. The silver standard was used for centuries in many places of the world. And the use of silver for coins, instead of other materials, has many reasons.

the design is exactly the same, no?
First I thought the same, but they are not :wiz:

The design of the sun is different, same about the lion's head ornament, the cap is smaller on the first coin,
two different lamas, a smaller and less elaborated three on the arms, less leaves on the right, "UN SOL" is on a straight line on the second coin, etc.

Many varieties exist for this kind of coinage.
