In the United States, the 1941 S "Mercury" Dime was minted in three different variations. The double-die would have been the mistake; therefore the default on that year should not be the double-die, but rather the "Big S" or "Little S," of which I am not sure what would have been the standard and which would have been the variant.
I don't want to be the one to edit it and screw up anyone's collections, but I do believe this to be an error in the cataloging that needs to be addressed.
See attached image:
not sure I get what you would like to achieve: would you like having mintage on the 2nd line instead of the 1st one?
Sapientiae plerumque stultitia est comes.
Si c'est un grand plaisir d'être reconnu par ses amis, c'est peut-être encore plus flatteur d'être reconnu par ses adversaires.
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.
he's only saying that the double die is NOT the normal coin, it's a variant, so that line should NOT have the minted quantity!
Now if the small "S" version is the most common, the mintage should go there with the comment that the large "S" version mintage is included.
The other way round if the large "S" etcetera.
According to the Red Book, "The San Francisco mintmark was changed to a larger size during 1941...." Thus, since the standard coin should have a large "S," I removed the "large S" reference, and I moved the mintage to that line as well.
