Minting error

Hi Numista members ,
I hope this coin from Belgium is also mentioned on our Numista collector site.
20 eurocent 2008 Belgium Minting error

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Unless the error is a recurring one in a particular coin type, I don't think Numista lists (or should list) them in the catalogue; if I have a coin with an error I put a personal comment in my collection only.

And unless I am mistaken, I don't think your error coin is in the former category?

Hi ,
the minting error with the same specific error was sold at catawiki at the beginning of 2017 https://veiling.catawiki.nl/kavels/9421511-belgi-20-cent-2008-misslag-stempelbreuk at an auction sold for 25 euros. So this is exactly the same mistake as on my coin.

Hi,

normally coins with some extra alloy are NOT catalogued in numista. There are simply too many of them. You can document your findings in the comment fields, but not in the year line.

Look at this as an example

I have plenty of others documented, but I don't want to see them as variants, even if you find them more than once, they are just the result of not properly cleaned dies!

You said it better than I could!
Hi,

I forgot to tell you, that I keep those coins in my collection, because I find them interesting... quite often you can see the development of die problem. Even when it's just an one-time error, I keep them. In some local coin catalogs that kind of errors are acknowledged as variants. If I remember correctly, this Danish

is acknowledged, but my Danish coin catalog has disappeared, so I have no proof!

I still stick with rule, if KM doesn't mention it, then it's not a known variant.
