very poor condition, I know, but I appreciate any clue!

Can barely see anything of the design, but with the diameter and yellow-ish, brassy metal, I'd say a Nuremberg jeton, or counter token of some sort. I see a lozenge with fleurs de lys on it, so maybe:

This sounds a little cliché but perhaps you could put a piece of paper over it and use a bit of graphite to rub onto the paper and see if any design comes out?
