Hi,

I've just acquired two Asian coins I can't identify. Any help appreciated!

  • Coin 1

KM# 172   Indian Princely States - Gwalior   1917   1/4 Anna   Copper
Obverse: Bust of Madho Rao right, continuous legend around portrait
 Reverse: Arms

There were other Gwalior coins, but the one above looks nearest to yours.

  • Coin 2

KM# 10   Indian Princely States - Jaora   1893-1896   1 Paisa   Copper
Obverse: AH date, flag and value in inner circle
Reverse Legend: H.H. THE NAWAB OF JAORA

Just a guess. I entered 1895 Jaora (as shown on the coin) and that was the only result. On that link there are five different versions of 1895 coin; not sure which version you have.  :)

Zac, you're invaluable! The hole in the second coin was really impeding my decryption: I was reading "THENA" as one word, and I thought the F was a gamma...

There don't seem to be any Jaora coins on Numista - shall I create a page for this coin, using these photos and the info from NGC?
 Yes - there are no Jaora coins on here, under Indian princely states;
it goes from  Jaisalmer - Rupee  to  Jodhpur - Rupee (1751-1945)

When creating a page, on the second line 'Issuing authority' go to the end of the list and select "Other"
so you can create  Indian princely states - Jaora
Then if there is more information needed, a member of the team can add it, I guess.  :)

P.S. The coins I have seen go from KM# 1 to KM# 12 and dates altogether between 1775 to 1896 but not sure if the section should then read  Indian princely states - Jaora (1775-1896)

Here we are then: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces31949.html.

Could someone on the admin team please alter the currency name? The "Indian princely states" bit at the beginning needs removing, to be consistent with the other currencies. Thanks.
The coin page looks alright. And when the team have amended as requested, perhaps they could tell us how to add to a subsection like that. I looked just now and Jaora is not in the list ...

That's because of the error I mentioned. In your picture, look under Hyderabad!
