Hey guys...

I'm pretty new to numista, and so far I've absolutely LOVED the way its set up. I switched from uCoin.net, where I had the pro membership. That allowed me to see the coin values in swaps. I see Numista does not seem to have this function. Is there a paid membership I can get to allow this? Is this something the Numista team could add? I think that kind of functionality is what made uCoin special, but the catalog was extremely lacking.

Is this something the Numista team is considering? If not, I fully recommend it.

Thank you!

Evan.
Hi Evan,

There is no paid membership on Numista and it's not in the plans. All members have same functionalities and options.

Coin values are shown on coin pages themselves, it's been recently implemented and still needs fine-tuning but with time values should become more accurate.

Hello,

Numista does not show coin values in swaps, you have to calculate everything manually.

However, I think automatic valuation is not always reliable. It might be good for contemporary coins, but the values of older ones are too variable, especially when grades are taken into account (uCoin valuation system ignores the essential fact that different grades can have different values). Then it is better for swappers to negotiate values individually.

Regards.

P.S.: offtopic: are you a Lithuanian?:)

Very true. I just felt as if this site, which DOES differentiate grades, would have a much stronger valuation system. I just thought that if the user-inputted value was shown and someone felt like it was too high, they could just move on to another user who may have that coin. Oh well then, its not too much of a hassle.

Also, yes! My great-grandfather immigrated from Lithuania circa 1920. We are the Šaltis family from Šiauilai county.

I'm a guy who admires history. I've attempted work at the family tree on the side to my coins.

Hello,
I suggest we merge this idea into that one: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic78305.html
uCoin (with PRO account) not only shows the values, but automatically sums them up. Imagine there are 100 coins in a swap. It would not be easy to calculate the sum of their values manually. When you know the sum total then (at least theoretically) you can decide whether the swap would be fair or not.

Sir, in my suggestion the value thing should be totally stopped, it has no real relevance, for different countries the coin price is different, it depend on its availability. Numista is Best place for swap.I have seen coins value at ucoin ,they are not at all relevant to real value .
For a swap ,a coin value depends on individual who want to swap it for a coin he want and and a mutual understanding with his swap partner that what they thinks its value is and they are Happy with it ...........

Numista is not for selling ,if it has fix values for swap coins it will restrict it self to a paticular region .That would be not good for the site where the members are from all the hemispheres. That would not be good to its multicultural structure. For example ucoin values are inline with mostly Russia, but not same as US or Asian country ...
This is the main hiderenc in Ucoin and + point for now in Numista.

arvin11: these questions were discussed many times in this forum. I don't understand why having a feature which is sometimes useful (although by no means always useful) is undesirable. It is true that people should use their own brains whenever possible, but why it is wrong to delegate some tedious work to machine? When swapping a handful of pre-euro small change from Germany, Spain or France, is there a need for swap partners to think long and hard and devote much time to negotiations?
