Linked data

Hello,

I would like to get your opinion on linked data initiatives like Nomisma or ISNI. Would it make sense for Numista to be part of it? How? When we start talking about Numista coin numbers or Numista API, it could make sense to be part of this ecosystem.

Let's take the coin Tetradrachm - Alexander III the Great (Odessos) as an example

What is your view on this?
I really like the idea of this, but I think there might be some obstacles and management issues to implement this.

As the referee of Ancient Greece I am using a lot of these sites to verify my data. Especially nomisma.org and numismatics.org

From my point of view, it would be great to be able to integrate the Numista catalogue to something greater and actually provide data for further numismatic research. But this means that a lot more work is needed to verify and integrate all these new features and links to the coin pages.

To be honest, I am not sure how these organizations will accept a site as Numista, with regard to data validity, referencing to the picture sources and quality assurance of the data we have listed on the site. So I think that being a part of initiatives like these would demand quite a lot from us and I doubt that we have the capacity to fulfill the requirement that a database like this would require from us. Maybe a one way referencing to these databases would be a better start than a full participation, at least in the beginning.

Best regards,
Stavros

PS. I am also using the following database to research and verify city names and rulers when dealing with the ancient world. Not sure how this can be used in this setting though. :)

I like the ideal. But I think really will have alot of work to be done. Why not just add the links in the comments of the coin?

But come back to the point, would it be too much work to be done?
Be kind to people. Sharing is Caring. Collect what you like and not by the Crowd.
To seek for perfection, it is too painful and there is a very high price to pay. To seek for something comfortable is more easy. To seek for nothing is even more easy.
