Hi, i would like to ask an help to understand if these 2 coins are the same.
I see there are 2 similar coins in catalog

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces20734.html
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces28241.html

How is possible to understand the differences?
Thanks

left coin: d=25,95mm / w=4,98g
right coins: d=25,95mm / w=4,77g

Your coins are both KM# 3, not KM#12.

There are minor differences between your coins, the thickness of the letters in particular (see the / in "1/4") but the differences between KM# 3 and KM#12 are much larger.

(There are many minor variations for Muscat and Oman which don't have images in Numista.)
Thank you for your answer.
I have a Krause book (3rd ed.) showing this image for KM3.1 and KM12.4
12.4 is reported in Numista as well, but the 12.1-.2-.3 seem to be really different coins.

Is it a mistake? In the 2015 edition of 1801-1900 Krause the KM12.4 did not appeare anymore.
I was going by the Numista images for the types--that was probably a mistake. The numista images have 12 different from 3, but those Krause images don't show the same difference.

Muscat and Oman from that era is one place where Krause is significantly deficient. Scott Cordry had a better type breakdown, but it is only text only. Two people (Scott Cordry and someone else) have been promising a better reference for years but I haven't seen them.

Some other resources:

(One of the comments wanted to provide an illustrated guide sometime in 2013.)
Accudentally hit Send. Another reference:

http://www.chiefacoins.com/Database/Countries/Oman.htm
It mentions SC numbers, but I haven't compared them with the Scott Cordry list.
