Dear fellow Numista colleagues!
Another edition of Most Popular Coin Contest is about to begin.

As no volunteer was found I have decided to try an organize this year's competition!

You can submit your coins from now on until the 27th of June 2020 23:59 CET, to me via PM only.

Here are some basic guidelines for this year's competition:

Categories:
A - Australia and Oceania + Antartic territories
B - Asia
C - North America
D - South America
E - Africa
F - Europe
G - Ancients
H - Medieval
I - Exonumia/Tokens/Primitive currency and Fantasy coinage
J - Non-circulating Commemorative coins

And also two extra categories.
K - Coin Sets
L - Banknotes

If you are unsure as to which continent your coin belongs to, you can use the following list.
https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_continents

The winners of the first 10 sections will later battle in a combined final round for the most popular coin!

There will be only two coins battling against each other. If before the start of a new round there is an uneven number to batle with eachother, one will be drawn as a lucky winner going through the next round.

Each Numista user can enter 1 coin for each of the sections, so 10 coins in total as a maximum.

The duration of one round is 4 days (In rare cases the duration might need to be increased to one additional day, if this happens members will be informed beforehand).

Let the competition begin! On the 28th of June 2020, we will start the competition from the Australia/Oceania section.

Votes should be done simply on which of the two coins you find most apealing. To vote simply add a comment with 1 or 2 depending on which coin you want to vote for, please do not leave any additional comments as the number for which you are voting for as this might influence the votes. Users sharing the same IP Adress are only allowed to 1 vote per individual round. Users whose coins have reached the final in one of the categories will be asked to provide a picture of the coin with a paper next to it showing the date of this being requested. A double vote can lead to ban of al MPCC.

There is no 100% distinction of what is from the antiquities or from the middle ages, but here at MPCC we will have the following.
Antiquities will be every coin minted before the collapse of Rome in 476.
Middle ages will be every coin minted between 476 and the discovery of the new world in 1492.

Only submit your own pictures of your own coins/tokens/medals. Of course better sharper pictures are preferred.

If you have submitted a coin but want to change it before the start of the competition, you can contact me via PM and we can see to organize this change.

Good luck and let the best coin wins!

Sincerely yours,
Paul

I suggest to you the same I suggested to druzhynets.
You could use a ticket system so nobody can say there was tampering involved.
They can be pre-made and go pubic at the time you specify etc.

Thats the site I used for previous competitions to foínd out which coin battles which, but I havent yet used this ticket system.
I will look into it and see if I can figure out how it works.

Thank you,

Paul

Great initiative, thanks for volunteering, apuking!

Im sure it was easier when I didn‘t have two children running around as well as the additional workload but I will try to do my best ;)

Thanks for organising this my dear apuking. I was thinking about entering something unusual and it seems we're missing a trick here. No sets? I'm thinking about official mint issues rather than the tacky stuff cobbled together by third parties.

Victorian proof issues, Maundy Money, there's some quality stuff out there among the boring yearly mint proof sets. Maybe a separate category or if that would create too much extra work, maybe just enter them into the appropriate zone.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Hello again Phil :)
Im open for suggestions, Sets could be an option but I would expect to not see many entries for such a category, also I would worry how that would look in the finals when single coins compete with a coin set, not sure on that one.
I do really like coin sets though, Maundy sets can be really wonderful.

Hi Paul, the big drawback is that most collectors will on hearing sets think of the yearly proof sets pumped out by just about every mint in cheap plastic cases and it's very likely that a separate category will be largely made up of these, at least in the early rounds. By chance the drawback would also be the strength, it would be nice to showcase sets from the days when proof coins were a highly prized rarity.
I'd like to see for example how my Maundy sets would fare against Oggy's 19th century specimen sets.
However, I'm only advising from the peanut gallery and you are the one organising matters. If it can be included - great, if not I'll have no complaints.

Hello Phil,

I would be ok to try out two extra categories which could be
- Coin sets
and a second as we have them added now also on Numista
- Banknotes
Both extra categories however would not compete in the finals as I would not like to see a coin set compete against a single coin or of course a banknote vs. a coin.

Let me know what you think, If you are ok with that I would add the two extra categories.

Best regards and stay healthy,

Paul

Yes Sir, I'm fine with that. I've always considered taking part to be important, not winning.

I figured out my question yet I couldn't delete this post, whoops.
Small change, the start of the competition will be on June 28 and submissions can be sent in until June 27th.

I had to change the schedule of my holidays so competition start is delayed by two months.
