Increase Size Limit for Photos [Risolto]

Hi,

Especially for Banknote photos, I often have to downsize them because otherwise I get an error about the entry being too large.

Can this limit be increased by any chance? It seems to be around 3MB at the moment which is insufficient for high resolution scans of large banknotes, and a lot of detail is lost, which is a pity. I even found this limit to be insufficient for some large coins.

Maybe 5MB for coins and 10MB for Banknotes?

Hello,

I slightly changed the limit :

• Before: 8 MB per form submission, 8 MB per uploaded photo
  
• Now: 12 MB per form submission, 8 MB per uploaded photo
  

It means you can either upload one photo of 8 MB at a time, or 2 photos of 6 MB each at the same time, etc.

More than 8 MB for a photo looks very big to me, even if you scan with high resolution. I would be interested to see the photo if you get over this limit.

To follow up on this, here is hi res scan (800DPI), 21.9MB for both faces.
Even with a tight crop, it will be 18MB+.

But 800DPI is indeed quite extreme... At 600DPI and a bit of downsampling it fits the 12MB limit now. Quality is lower, but I suppose for Numista this is enough:

I don't think we have to make it too easy for the Chinese so a bit of lost details should be more than acceptable

​There are 2 ways to have lower sized image: to lower DPI or to lower an amount of colors. With the second way you can hardly find differences.

Please see an example from your link and compare with the original 22 MB file with a zoom

I am partly colour blind, so I can definitely see no difference whatsoever ...

In this particular case it works, you are right. For a note with a smooth colour gradient this might create some banding.

Anyway... I think the new limit works. These large images already load a bit slowly. Making them larger would make this even worse.
