I think some fields hace to be mandatory to fill out just to be able to publish a new page. One lots these fields should should be the Pick. I was about to publish tens of new pages, but in the last second I searched for denomination and found them. The picks (or whatever catalogue refrence you're using) is about the most important thing to identify banknotes, and coins, for that matter.
I know we don't like mandatory fields, but this will prevent so many double entries.
I think we should start using more T.B.B. catalogue numbers - as there is a possibility the Pick numbers won't be updated again in light of Krause Publications' bankruptcy last year.
Some collectors don't have access to a physical copy of the Krause & Pick catalogues.
Requiring specific catalog numbers is not realistic. If you have access, of course please use them. But it is absurd to expect every person who submits a page to have access to an online catalog that costs more than $70 dollars a year for access. TBB will not be required to accept pages.
And honestly, I value catalog numbers. But as valuable and universal as Pick is, not everyone has access. Before I approve a listing, I search listings to see if the type already exists. If it does not, I try to add the P#.
I will not exclude efforts to add to the catalog.

I agree with Oklahoman. You have a problem also with recent issued banknotes that has not been catalogued by anyone. Catalog reference simply can't be a mandatory field and in the same time to have an updated catalog.
I agree that Pick numbers have all kinds of problems associated with them but the vast majority of "real" banknotes can be found at http://banknote.ws/ with P#, so it shouldn't be too hard to add them. Perhaps a list could be prepared of entries lacking a P#, which those of us stuck at home can work through?

I didn't mean pick per se, but a catalogue reference number. In some cases it's nearly impossible to distinguish which one is which with the limited information added to each page.
I don't have any physical catalogues, but I'm still abke to add picks.
Even so you are aware that a newly issued note can't be added in your catalog since none yet assigned a catalog number for it so basically you can't have an updated catalog. The only way I can see this field mandatory is if you are an authority and you have your own catalog numbering system or if you create a dummy catalog to be used for newly issued notes. But also in this way if someone don't want to add the catalog number will use your dummy catalog number.

A good enough reason to have catalogue numbers derived from the issuing entities' names in English - ignoring words like 'the', 'of', & 'and'.

Of course you can't add catalogue numbers if it dosen't exist. It goes without saying, right? Just as we can't add banknotes for the catalogue that hasn't been printed yet.
I found myself frustrated a bit over the past few weeks while trying to improve banknote catalog when I see a page with no Pick number, a "sloppy" picture and no details. I understand we'd love to have as complete catalog as possible as fast as possible but I'd expect catalog referees and admins to be doing a bit more diligent work approving this kind of additions/changes.
Totally agree with everything Oklahoman has said above. And by the way, want to use this opportunity to THANK YOU for the great work you're doing as banknote catalog referee. 👍
