Can we consider mirroring some of the other coin forum pages? I love reading all the forums, but I find myself a bit envious of the coin side of things...They have a a coin swap forum. So their coin swaps are not mixed in amongst all the other posts...can we have a banknote swap forum? If this is a no go, can we change the swap forum to be for coins and for banknotes?
I also enjoy the help me figure out what this coin is forum. Can we also have a banknote forum for that? I just think we need to think big and perhaps prepare for the future traffic. Also, if this does not seem doable, how about changing the verbage so that all coin and banknote questions are in the same room?
Not sure, but is there an interest in any other banknote forums that would be counterpoint to the coin forums?

A couple amendments to my mock: rename "Most Popular Coin Contest" to simple "Numista Contests", and swap it with "Free discussion" (so it is last in the section).
I agree with the general idea here. It was actually already raised here, but I missed to follow up.
What about the following structure?
Coin forums
Coin general information and questions (currently named "Numismatic questions")
Coin identifications and valuations
Coin swaps and trades
Numista coin catalog
Banknote forums
Banknote general information and questions (currently named "Banknotes")
Banknote identifications and valuations (new)
Banknote swaps and trades (new)
Numista banknote catalog
Generic forums
Numista website
Free discussions
Most Popular Coin Contest
This is based on smoked_caramel's mockup, with some adjustments
Set coins first instead of the generic forums: that's the main focus of the forum, at least today
Split Numismatic questions for coins and banknotes, it's already mostly the case
Move the catalog forum at the end of each subsection, this is important but probably not the first focus
I would keep the name "Most Popular Coin Contest" unless the organizer of MPCC wants to change the name of MPCC. "Numista Contests" sounds too generic: this section is for MPCC only.
The "mirrored" forum suggestion is a big bonus in my books. When I signed up I had a couple "swap" enquiries (coins for banknotes) even though I wrote on my profile that I sought "UNC for UNC banknotes" so the separation would serve each type of collector well.
I was wondering about the "Most Popular Note Contest"(in Banknote section) or rather than "MPCC" section (in Generic) just having a "Contest & Polls" section in each forum (Coin & Banknote) or one of each in the Generic section. That way, if you decide to allow members to start a poll, they could be created by individual Numista members.
Other forums also have separate sections on "Counterfeits or Fakes" (which typically have less traffic & could also be in Generic section).

There was already some "disappointment" expressed with not having MPBC and jamming a single banknote category into MPCC. I have a strong feeling that the next MPCC is going to run together with MPBC thus was my proposal to just have a "Numista contests" section. It may also trigger some creating minds into coming up with other types of interesting contests.
Let me update my previous proposal, for this long overdue topic, adding exonumia (see the exonumia related topic).

I'm reluctant to create too many forum sections (or we'll spend our time navigating from one section to the other, seeing only a couple of new topics at a time), but it's probably better to have a clear structure which distinguishes coins, banknotes and exonumia.
An issue I see with this structure is that the coin identification section will probably contain some tokens, which I guess moderators will need to move to the exonumia identification section.
As you said you may have tokens in the coin identification forum when it's not too obvious but I don't feel it as a big pain. On the other side when we have a token to identify we will not bother the coin identification specialist.

Hello,
I am not sure the Coin / Banknote / Exonumia catalogue sections should be split. Questions regarding currencies, issuers, mints, engravers, etc. concern at least two if not all sections. Indeed, discussions on signatures and mints would be mixed, but I think it would also keep things easier to access. Maybe these three sections could be grouped under General > Numista catalogue

I love this idea! 😍
Edit: Would it be possible to implement a button to mark an entire section of the forum as read? I'm not interested in banknotes and exonumia and I would like to be able to mark all of them as read without having to open each section and click the button there.
The new fora elongate the list quite a bit and because the names coin/banknotes/exonumia are in all the titles I would think they aren't that necessary. If we need them maybe add a block to the side with the names vertically?
I removed the explanations to save even more space (to maybe add the i-symbol with pop-up information) but this looks quite ugly even if the window would be spaced normally again
I think just a hide button (-) that allows to hide banknotes and exonumia sections would be enough. Or a possibility to move them below “general” part of the forum

One thing I noticed is the use of two different types of arrows, which both have the same function (expanding a menu). I think it would be nice to use the same arrow in both cases (I’d choose the open arrow from the top menu) 🙂

I now use the same “open” arrow for the “more” button, the “language” menu (which had a slightly different arrow) and the forum categories. There are still some other kinds of arrows on the website (the ruler list or the collection history for example); they can be changed to the “open” arrow later.

Looks better, although I would expect the arrow to face right when the section is closed and down when it is open. Also, when I close all sections on my iPhone, the width of the table is changed.
