We have permission only for pictures from NGC, not pictures from the World Coins, even if they are used on the NGC website.
No way referees are checking that.
Part of the referee's job, I would think, checking the accuracy of sources.
There's a huge difference between what you think part of the job is and what is actually done. Referees accept duplicates back-to-back within seconds, pictures of different coins that don't match the source provided, etc. I know for a fact some don't even have a look at the required comment field with the sources. No way they're checking from which part of the NGC website the picture is from. Most probably don't even know that some pictures from there aren't allowed.
Sites that have such restrictions seem to me not usable. How would anybody know of such restrictions. There are no warning indicators that explicitly state that there might be copyright problems and limitations apply. Like some museum websites where certain media have separate copyrights that are not allowed to be used by third parties. Nobody outside of the person getting the permission and the person adding it to the usable sources would know of those.
If I had gotten this picture request the gray-scale picture would have irked me because that's a sign of a catalog scan or at least picture manipulation like a copper coin made to look like silver etc..
Also yes, quite a few refs just seem to click on accept and those will have to go. But unlike Colnect, Numista would at least correct such issues with out too much hassle if someone complained (i hope).

Just because other websites might be disregarding copyright and licenses is no excuse for Numista to do the same. Numista has an excellent reputation worldwide for a reason; it does not compromise its integrity for simple convenience. That's the way it's always been, and it's been a recipe for success. The policy where permission/license must be acquired should be maintained, just as before.
Numista has had access to NGC's images since early February, and I'm yet to see a widespread erroneous use of pictures from the NGC price guide and/or website. Obviously, it's important that we respect the conditions of NGC, and any wrongful use should be corrected. Perhaps Numista could consider adding a pop-up notification when selecting NGC as source, with a reminder that only pictures taken by NGC may be used.
Instead of focusing on minor complications we should be happy that the world's largest third-party grading company has granted us permission to use their images. With unique collections such as the Bruun collection, and an ever-expanding database, NGC provides the opportunity to display high quality images for coins in the catalog, which never would have been possible otherwise.

Well, I see it. Someone is systematically going to use all these pictures in this section for example.
And again, also telling that the reported copyright infringement I posted above is still there by the way.
As I said, the “rules” on Numista are just smokes and mirrors. I know of a master referee who knows they add pictures they are not supposed to. And when asked about it, they just change the source info to make it less obvious.
@Jarcek you have any comment on that problem? You didn't answer the last time (not that you had to).
Just went through more than 800 items we have with NGC attribution. I did not see any systematic addition of these old photos. I removed about 25-30 offenders, some from already rejected items.
As for your allegations regarding master referees, please either share them with names or not tell them at all. This innuendo is tiring.

Hey, so I was the one that added the images (and the pages as well) of the coins for Radhanpur mentioned here. I also have added a number of coins from other Princely states and various German States and (just today) some from Nepal from the world coin sections of NGC. No where is it written that we cannot use NGC World coins, and I was wondering what the reason for our inability to use was, and if there was a way to make that clear for next time. Also, is there a possibility of reaching our to NGC for use of the world coins database?

Also, two of the Rostock recent additions have NGC images, should those be removed administratively? I added all three and used NGC for two of them.
NGC and Krauses World Coin Catalogue have nothing in common and are two completely different entities.

Would be great to have a permission from Forint portál. They have a very extensive documentation of Hungarian numismatics with pictures that could be used here.
RE: Permission request to use images on Numista site
No problem you may use them.
Do i get mails of the pictures you are gonna use? Or not?

Dear sir,
We would like to ask you to give permission to https://en.numista.com to use images from your Zonnemunten.nl site for our new Euro coin sets online catalogue.
Numista is a non-profit website and is operated and managed purely by volunteer users.
Numista is a website with a numismatic online catalogue that is free for everyone to view and use.
We have 160,000 registered users.
Many auction houses, national Mints, national Banks, museums and numismatic institutions have already given us permission.
We would of course be very happy if we could get permission from you too.
All images would be marked with your copyright information: with " Zonnemunten.nl", as well as a link to your website.
It could increase your publicity.
We would really appreciate using the images published in your Zonnemunten.nl web site, especially now when we are building a new Euro coin sets catalogue.
Please let me know if you give us a permission to use images from your site.
Thank you.
Best Regards,
Ludvik Jakubovic
Numista member from Austria

I think it's going to happen again and again, when site owners retire or simply leave this world, so nobody pays the site costs….. I don't think it's easy to check on that?
