wrong glue, I guess, and poorly applied apparently.

95% of bond failures are poor surface prep.

Today's reject bin pull:

- Belize 5 Cents 2006

- Canada 10 Cents 1986

- New Zealand 10 Cents 2006 (the newer magnetic type)

HoH

Just pulled a 1967 Canadian dime, not from the reject bin but sitting on the shelf. Apparently, the person didn't realize this was an 80% silver dime, looked at it and set it on the shelf.

Also pulled 12 cents U.S.

First find in quite a while.

a little story “the other way round”…

I am living in Germany and occasionally I find a bunch of US coins that someone over here has for whatever reason and wants to get rid of it for quite below face value.

Once in a while I go to the US, having little baggage on the way over, so quite some room to take several kilos of small change.

Usually I cash that at some Coinstar on the way for gift vouchers that I might be able to use anyway, like Starbucks, so for no fee.

Last week I cashed about three kilos of various coins, mainly Cents, Nickels and Dimes, few quarters + halfs and had one quarter (+ 1 Cent) coming to the reject bin several times.

The Cent was simply a wreck, but the quarter, more specifically a 1976 bicentennial quarter, was nice and shiny, so no real reason to get kicked.

Looking closer it turned out to be the 400 silver version that is not recognized by the machine. Of course I did not leave it there…..

So in the end I help fight the current US shortage on small change, bringing back home some “lost” coins from overseas and make some additional fortune with silver 😉

in the end everything will be good - if it's not good, then it's not the end...

Continuing my version of “coinstar finds” (i.e. finding stuff while I'm riding my bike around)  Today's find is a Bolton Wanderers FA cup centenary medal

What? Me Worry

It has been years since I have found anything at a coins star and I check regularly.
However this time, I found a coat hanger in the trash bin next to the machine and used it to pull  the dropped coins out from under the machine. I found about a $1.50 in change and one 1946 silver dime and a 1885 worn Indian head cent!

So much time and effort for the chance to find something neat…

Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins

…and two casino tokens.

My own mother just moved house and I got the ‘50s Danish teak  furniture.

The British penny reveals itself to be an iron coin.

also several zinc US cents beyond saving, and oddly this 69-S.

The US cent was still solid bronze in 1981, but not for long.

1981 UK pennies ought to be bronze.  If it really is iron, or at least magnetic, then you might have something special.

Three finds at the CoinStar today:

Canada, 25 cents, 2011

Malaysia, 10 sen, 2008

USA, 1 cent, 2017 ( either a planchet error or a counterfeit, deserves its own post)

…And $1.75 in typical USA coins.

Well last time I checked a coinstar machine end of last year I found a US 1975 penny left at the machine. Considering i'm in the UK and that's a foreign coin. I'll take it as a hit.

decent looking example too. XF or so. The commodity  price of copper has been rising along with gold and silver, so your Lincoln cent is now worth 4 times its face value.

I was so excited when I saw the machine full of dimes and quarters. I assumed there would be some rejected silver in there somewhere, so I was pretty disappointed with my absolutely free $3.23…

wow, 3.23 is a very high score! 😎

I once got CDN$3.13 , including a 1944 5 cent. I still have all of it of course, I never go to Canada anymore…

Found this today. The one in the middle is ab S Weir Farm from 2020. Odd to find a proof quarter in the reject bin. And it's dirty.

Does the edge have a copper stripe? If it's plain white, it might be silver, which would explain why it got rejected, since it would be heavier than a regular CN quarter.

No copper stripe. It's a silver proof.

No copper stripe. It's a silver proof. But even the bad picture shows the dirt on it. Must have been circulating or in a change jar for a while.

Could be a real hit if you're in Floroda! 😱

Hilarious!
I actually knew a guy that was left a huge pile of silver coins. He rolled it all up in bank rolls and bought a moped with it. His grandfather never told him it was all silver…

To bad Houseofham didn't go to the bank that day…

Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins

First time checking a coinstar in a while and I found these 4 Oman coins and German/French euro cents. Shocked to find Oman coins in the wild like that but not complaining. My most uncommon country found randomly. Additions to my collection too.

Today, the reject tray was completely loaded.   More than two handfuls of coins left behind!  Along with $3.21 USD in normal coins, which is free money anyway, I also found…

Canada, 10 cents, 1965 (SILVER!)

France,  2 euro cents, 2023
